S3W21: Local Motion Surf Into Summer presented by Quiksilver at Bowls

Local Motion held it's annual Surf Into Summer this Memorial Day's weekend at Ala Moana Bowls. The waves were super fun all weekend, perfect for contest. Everyone looks forward to this event because it marks the beginning of summer season and great way to surf Bowls (which usually have 30+ people on normal days) with just few people.

I couldn't believe the level of surfing i've witnessed at the event in every division. Check it out yourself.

Welcome home Hawaii Jr Surf Team!

Hawaii Jr Surf Team came home to Hawaii today! They sure made us proud. They came in 4th as a team. That's 4th nation out of 27 nations participated in this event.

Not only they were dealing with VERY unfamiliar country of Peru and surf breaks they've never surfed, they all got food poisoning right before the event.

Great job guys and gals! thank you all the coaches for not only coaching but taking care of them and giving them the support they needed out there!

The team was greeted by families and supporters. Maeda family made spam musubi for everyone. Nothing like having a familiar food after eating who knows what for past few weeks.

It's also Keanu's birthday today. we were all singing "happy birthday" song right in the middle of the airport. ha ha.

So great to see them at home and honored to be able to be there at the airport.

Kids aren't so little anymore - Watch and learn kids!

Stopped by Kewalos in the afternoon and bunch of kids were there since some schools are done for the summer already.

Here's Nicole. I remember her being a little kid. It's little scary how these kids are not so little anymore. ha ha.

I had to surf first since i wanted to try out my new board. The board works good! So stoked. some boards look and feel good on land but not work right when surf BUT this one is a keeper! Thanks Brice and Unknown Surfboards!

After my surf session, i filmed since there were some great waves still.

Kaito has been surfing really good lately and he had to see it for himself after his session. i like it when kids check out the clips. i think they learn a lot from watching themselves surf, specially the clips where they didn't do well.
Local Motion's Surf Into Summer starts tomorrow! I need to get there early so i can secure my favorite spot to put my tent up.

Lower rocker, little shorter, thicker and wider than my old board. This thing looks perfect for summer's town waves!

Slapped on my supporters stickers along with Ransom's traction pad and it is ready to go!

Local Motion's Surf Into Summer is starting tomorrow so you know i'll be surfing all afternoon after i finish my work today!

Town's been fun! - Hawaii Team in Peru video - Sad to be stoked

Town's been super fun lately. Little windy but there's been some good waves.

It was nice to see all the kids having fun out there.

Team Hawaii is kicking butt at Peru. They are still in the running for the gold! FreeSurf magazine did this great video of the team. Check it out!

A gallon of gas for less than $4. If you ask me, it's still EXPENSIVE!

i wish there's a dollar menu at gas stations. crappy gas for $1/gallon for people like me who drive crappy cars. ha ha.

Moniz kids are everywhere!

Sister (Kelia) has been busy traveling everywhere these days. She's even in June issue of People Style Watch magazine!

Billabong got an ad with all the Moniz boys. You know the "I surf because..." series of ads? well, they got the only "WE surf because..." ad! How sick is that!

After coming back from Cali last night, i was pretty much working till this afternoon. I had to jump in the water before i kill someone so i went to Kewalos and the waves were super fun!

Carissa came out surf too. as always she was surfing unreal.

S3W20: Volcom VQS Championships at 54th St, Newport Beach

Volcom had it's VQS Championships at 54th street in Newport Beach. This year's theme was 80's Metal, "The Totally Twisted Crustaceans of Metal". It was a truly an international event with surfers who qualified from all over the world was there. The waves were typical Newport Beach small and weak but Hawaii kids were ripping out there.

Congrats to everyone who qualified to be there. Specially Leila Hurst and Barron Mamiya for winning their divisions!

Hawaii team in a hospital in Peru

Wow, I just heard the whole Hawaii World Jr team including coaches are in Peru is in the hospital! They got sick from something they ate or drunk.

Hope they feel better and be in top shape for the contest. We are all praying for a fast recovery guys and girls!
