Today was the 1st day of NSSA Regional Championships at Kewalos. The waves picked up since few days ago. Good thing because the waves sucked till yesterday late afternoon.
It was good to see kids compete in some fun waves. I must say, Josh Moniz impressed me today the most. yes, i surf with him all the time but he's a mellow guy so usually let other people have the better waves and he catches smaller waves.
During the contest, he was catching the best waves and he was destroying the waves with his power hacks, barrels, airs, etc.
After watching him surf today, i know if he keeps working hard, he will be in the CT (or is it World Tour now?) one day.
After the contest many contestants left to rest but the waves were getting better and better. I was filming all day so i decided to surf with Joel Centeio and Jason Shibata along with other people who were waiting for the contest to end to free surf.
Yes, i'm a kook specially compare to Joel and Jason... I love surfing with them tho. They are just stoked to be out surfing, they give me waves and get stoked for me when i surf well. (when i say well, i mean good for me but decent to other people. ha ha)
It was the best Kewalos i surfed in a while. Hope the swell stays for the next 2 day of the contest!
After the session, I stopped by In4Mation to see if they got more Aloha for Japan stickers. well, stickers were all out and shirts were still all out with a long waiting list... BUT look what they had!
That's right, Aloha for Japan hat! I was so excited cuz i can wear hats everyday unlike a shirt. $20 and all profit goes towards Japan Earthquake/Tsunami Relief!
Speaking of Aloha for Japan, Mahina Maeda is supporting the effort by putting the sticker on her board! (Photo:
