sorry, I've been Busy!!

sorry guys for not updating the blog for a while. i got super busy to the point where i wasn't getting a few hours of sleep a night, again...

ok, so these are some of the things that happened to me since i last posted a blog.

i went to tracks to shoot some groms surfing. the waves were good until the wind picked up. didn't get too many good shots... little disappointed.

i stopped by matty (costa)'s house to interview him about this injury at backdoor for my new project i'll be talking about in a bit. matty's a funny kid! i was cracking up the whole time i was there. we ended up flying his remote control plane for a while. we got really in to it until i flew the plane onto matty's neighbor's roof...

my buddy macy (mullen) came back from cali for a few days. he was my money maker before he moved to cali. we were off shooting early in the morning for a few days. got some good shots too! after macy left to the airport i stopped by
after macy left to the airport i stopped by at ehukai beach park to check out some kids. waves were small... the kids were having fun tho. they made up some kind of game and started digging in the sand.
sometimes i wish i could be a kid again. these guys were having so much fun just digging. that's it, they were just digging and digging some more. how's that fun??? ha ha

ok, so my new project! it's an online 18 and under surf magazine called Novus Swell. the mag will come out every month starting 2009 and the site will be updated everyday with news and contests.

Novus means "new" and "fresh" in Latin. so we are going to be covering "new" and "fresh" surfers every month.

the mag's not out yet but the site is up! i'll be moving my blog over there soon too so go check it out! www.NovusSwell.com

Quiksilver's Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational Opening Ceremony At Waimea Bay

Today was Quiksilver's Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational Opening Ceremony At Waimea Bay.

if i have to pick one contest out of many to attend, this is the one! where else in the world you get see surf legends and will be legends all together at one place. it's a super prestige event since only 28 invitees and 24 alternates out of thousands and thousands of surfers are invited to this event!

yep, that's tony moniz in the middle, he's one of the chosen ones! so if you want to learn how to surf from a legend, give him a call at faith surf school.

you know this event is super important when even kelly shows up on time! ha ha

the leader of the pack, clyde aikau. not only he's eddie's brother, he's a legend himself charging some crazy waves!

time to paddle out!

what an amazing day! i think i'm still little starstruck... ha ha

the waves supposed to get huge in the north shore tomorrow (not big enough for eddie contest tho) so i'm thinking of making a trip over to the west side. see ya later!!

Rocky Point and V-land Session

I headed out to north shore to shoot today. finally i got out of my house away from my computer!! sweet!

i picked up chris (pendleton), BayVI team rider, and we were off to north shore.

rocky point was going off and for some reason, it wasn't crowded. i don't even remember the last time when rocky point was that good and not crowded.

kainoa (haas), another BayVI team rider, showed up at rocky point about the same time we got there. it's so weird cuz kainoa and i always try to shoot but we never get to shoot when we plan...

gopal (butler), yet another BayVI team rider, came out after 20 minutes. i was tripping out now, cuz it was turning into a BayVI photo session. ha ha

we stopped by V-land in the evening time and the waves were going off! i decided to shoot in the water but the cloud got infron tof the sun and lighting was really bad... didn't get too many shots there. oh well, maybe next time.

final day at the Rell Sunn's Menehune contest

today was the final day of the 33rd annual rell sunn's menehune surfing championship. waves were little smaller today than yesterday but that didn't stop all the kids to have a day of fun in the sun.

it's amazing how good they all surf and they are all 12 and younger.

not just boys, girls were ripping too.

here's my favorite (probably everyone's favorite) division, 4-6 years old. these kids were so cute.

goodies these kids got were bigger than they were! backpackes, deckpads, bodyboards, and other great stuff including so many surfboards were given away.

33rd annual rell sunn's menehume surfing championships

This weekend is 33rd annual rell sunn's menehume surfing championships! so i went over today (saturday) to check it out!! they usually hold it at makaha but the waves were too big for menehune so they moved it to rest camp. the waves were perfect 1-2 ft for the kids.

i love this contest because it brings out all the kids from all over the islands!

kids were having so much fun! when they weren't surfing their heats they were just playing all day!


these kids were ripping! it's amazing how good they are at such young age. i think i was still learning how to swim at their age... ha ha

surf hard, play hard all day, you gotta eat!! lunch time!

they had raffle tickets for some cool goodies all day but the highlight of the day had to be the autograph session. kids were so stoked! not only they got autographs, kahea (hart) brought tons of stickers and shirts for all the kids.


it'a amazing how one person can bring so many people together.
i think moving to hawaii from california made me a way better person. people always talk about "aloha" all the time when they talk about hawaii. it is real, i've met so many different great people and they make me realized strangers are just friends i haven't met yet. it's amazing how much love they have for families, friends and their comunities.

tomorrow is the final day of the contest so i'll be there again soaking in "aloha" from everyone in the west side!!
