It was another windy day today, but i couldn't just sit at home any longer, i was going crazy sitting at home. so i picked up Josh Moniz, Seth Moniz, Jenna Forti and CC (Sierra Ondo) and we headed over to Sandys.
Windy, but had some good size waves!
When we got there, Matty Costa was out there ripping already!
I think seeing Matty on some nice waves convinced the kids to paddle out.
The waves were super bumpy for these kids weighing less than 100 lbs. but they were having fun out there! and more than anything, good practice! cuz you never know what kind of waves they need to surf for contests.
Seth Moniz, he got the cleanest style on any kind and any condition of waves.
Josh Moniz, he's already a power surfer and he's only 13! he was powering through those bumpy waves all afternoon!
Jenna Forti, she's always super stoked to surf anywhere, anytime, any condition. she was the only girl out there paddle battling all the boys!
They all surfed for a while and had to rest in my car cuz the wind was blowing hard and they were cold.
and yes, they locked me out... i guess they were talking about something they didn't want me to hear. ha ha.
while the kids were taking a break, Barak Maoh, Buddy Wiggins, and Isaiah Moniz showed up.
Barak Maoh, he surfs his back side so well! makes me jealous, cuz i suck so bad going back side. i mean look at the perfect fan! and that's with wind blowing at 25 - 30 mph!
Buddy Wiggins, it feels like he does a new move every time i see him surf. how is he learning those moves so fast?? it takes me a year to learn a new move and that's if i'm lucky.
Isaiah Moniz, you all know him from the profile video webisode. he's so mellow and quiet on land but just explodes when he's in the water.
Noa Mizuno came while kids were taking a break, so Seth and Josh went out for their second session with Noa.
Noa Mizuno, i missed his best wave... sorry Noa. He's been surfing solid these days. He knows how to read waves so well now, he's always turning and hitting lips on the right spots of waves.
Vincent Starn, Kylen and Cole Yamakawa showed up too.
Cole changing his fins so his board can handle the bumpy waves.
it was awesome to see Cole doing that. i think knowing your equipment is so important. so kids, don't just rely on your parents and coaches. ask questions and learn from them, even ask older kids who know more about their equipments or even better, ask your shapers! because surfing with wrong board and/or fins can ruin your session.
Vincent Starn, I haven't seen him in a while and i was impressed today! The waves today weren't easy waves to surf but Vincent was surfing them like those were the easiest waves to surf. He made me think maybe i can have fun out there... but i know i'd had a horrible time out there if i went out tho. i know my surfing level... ha ha.
Cole Yamakawa, I think he made the right choice on the fins! solid bottom turns to hitting the lips on all the waves he caught today!
Kylen Yamakawa, I still can't understand how people have hard time pronouncing his name... ha ha. He's been showing solid results in contests and he surfs even better when he's free surfing. So learn to pronounce his name everyone, specially all the contest announcers because you'll be saying his name a lot!
Jenna and CC ended up bodysurfing the shore break while the boys were surfing. It's crazy how these girls are so comfortable getting pounded! they were all smiles getting tossed around with tons of sand in their hair and faces. ha ha.
I always have Hawaii Meth Project's wrist bands and temporary tattoos in my car so kids can take them if they really are not going to try meth even once.
So if you want a "Not Even Once" wrist band or temporary tattoo , hit me up!
Jenna's one of them! She's saying "Not Even Once" to meth! btw, that's my shirt... so Jenna, i need it back! ha ha.
I thought it was going to be just the kids who came with me today but ended up being a fun afternoon with bunch of kids! so stoke to see all of them out there enjoying the ocean even when wind's blowing at 30mph!
I've heard the wind supposed to slow down a little tomorrow. i hope it does cuz i'm so tired of making sure non of the kids are flying away! ha ha.
See you all tomorrow!
