while i was working, i was checking out the Billabong World Jr Championship.
The waves were kindda crappy... strong onshore and maybe chest high on sets. it looked like a really bad Barbars Point.
Kids were ripping tho! The surfing level there is insane! i guess throw tails and air reverses are normal things for these guys on crappy waves... amazing! i guess i need to give up becoming a pro, i'm still working on duck diving. ha ha
Here's Albee Layer doing some nasty backside throw tail reverse thing. (I don't even know the names of these new moves...)
you can check out videos from today at http://www.billabongpro.com/wjc09/videos
Yesterday when i was at Mahina's house, i was checking out the new Surf1st magazine from Japan.
Kenta on the cover, it was really cool meeting him few months ago.
Ushikoshi had a whole section about him.
Ushi is a part owner of BayVI Japan so i've been working with him for a while now.
and i was super stoked to see this section!
My buddy Dave! it was from his surf trip. look at him, he's ripping for being an old guy. ha ha. nah, nah. just kidding Dave.
I'm giving away an official 40th Annual Haleiwa International Open t-shirt signed by many of the jr surfers, contest director Jason Shibata, and the artist Clark Takashima. i wish i made them sign 2 shirts so i can keep one, cuz the shirt will look so sick framed with all the Hawaii and Japan surfers autographes.
So if you want to win it, go enter at Novus Swell and don't forget to check out the video webisode about the HIO too!
